Learning and growing
at Phorms Berlin Süd

At our secondary school, we promote a respectful and supportive learning environment where students grow together. Younger students learn in fixed classrooms, while older students are gradually introduced to university-style learning in seminar rooms. Our spacious sixth form area also offers space for quiet study and relaxing breaks—creating the ideal setting for academic and personal development.

Key focuses
of our educational concept

Bilingual Education

Language balance

At our secondary school, German and English are taught on an equal footing - 50% of the subjects are taught in German and the other 50% in English.

Bilingual Education

Immersion method

Immersion method is a holistic approach that enables students to immerse themselves in the language with all their senses. Our English-speaking teachers speak English consistently and supplement what they say with facial expressions, gestures, pictures and symbols. Through this natural language acquisition, students develop an intuitive feel for the language, expand their vocabulary in a playful way and actively use English from the very beginning. In this way, they learn the language faster, more easily and more intensively - almost in the same way as they learned their mother tongue.

Bilingual Education

Language sequence and linguistic diversity

Our students experience bilingual learning in German and English every day. From Year 7, they also take Spanish as a foreign language, and in Year 9, French can be added as an elective. This language concept fosters multilingualism and prepares students confidently for an international future.

Individual Support

Diverse programme

We offer a varied and individualized programme to provide optimal support for learning processes - from homework clubs to the ‚Digitale Drehtür' model for gifted students and exciting competitions. This offer is complemented by a wide range of extracurricular clubs in which individual interests can be explored in depth and talents developed. We also support our students with comprehensive career and study guidance to prepare them as well as possible for their future after the Abitur and to help them achieve their personal goals.

Individual Support

Self-organized learning

Our students are encouraged to engage independently with overarching topics through excursions, museum visits, expert interviews and creative work. They learn to look at topics from different perspectives and design presentations.

Teamwork is particularly important to us, as it promotes social behaviour, responsibility and self-organization. Teamwork is actively encouraged in all subjects and also in sport in order to motivate students to work together and inspire each other.

Individual Support

Project-based learning and problem-oriented work

At our secondary school, we focus on project-based learning and problem-oriented work in order to actively involve our students in their learning process. Through practical projects and real-life problems, they develop critical thinking and creativity. Instead of just acquiring theoretical knowledge, they apply it directly, question connections and develop independent solutions. This approach therefore promotes sustainable learning.

Media Education

Digital equipment

Our classrooms are all equipped with interactive smartboards that can be written on and provide access to the internet. Every student also has access to a laptop for writing texts, researching, calculating and creating presentations. These media not only enrich the learning process, but also promote media skills. Our students really enjoy learning on the computer.

Media Education

Digital classes

All students are equipped with a Phorms laptop when they start secondary school in Year 7.

The young people then have the opportunity to work with the device in a variety of ways both at school and at home. In addition to digital work, however, analogue working methods are still practiced in the classroom. In the coming school year, we will continue to focus on a good mix in order to ensure the acquisition of media literacy skills, as well as language learning and the skills we are aiming for in the individual subjects.

Graduation

Abitur

Our entire campus is state-recognised, meaning that students at our secondary school can obtain the general higher education entrance qualification through the bilingual Abitur. They also receive a certificate detailing which subjects have been taught in German and which in English over the years - including the respective number of lessons. In addition to the Abitur, this certificate is a valuable addition for international study and career prospects.

Financial statements

Cambridge Certificate

In addition to the Abitur, we offer students in the upper grades the opportunity to take the Cambridge Advanced English Certificate (CAE) exam. This exam determines the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) within the A1-C2 levels. Our students complete these examinations at native speaker level, with level C.

Career Guidance

Work placement at school in Year 9

As part of our school-based work placement, we offer our Year 9 students the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in the world of work. Before the internship, the young people receive comprehensive preparation. During this time, we prepare them for the demands of everyday working life as well as for documenting their experiences. This is followed by the internship, which lasts two weeks, during which the students gain an insight into professional activities in various companies and can test their skills in a practical setting. The internship is rounded off and concluded with a presentation of the results, in which experiences and findings are presented.

Career Guidance

Counseling sessions by the Federal Youth Agency

In addition to information events on general topics such as "Paths after the Abitur" and "Refresh/Dates in Year 12", there is also the opportunity to take advantage of individual counselling sessions with our contact person from the Federal Youth Agency. These counselling appointments are usually offered at the school during the school year following the information events and as required. This ensures that individual and professional advice is provided in all directions, which also opens up new perspectives.

Career Guidance

Workshops on all aspects of BSO

Every year, we offer workshops on various career and study orientation topics for the sixth formers, which the students can choose themselves in advance. These include, for example, interview/assessment centres, bureaucracy or the gap year. Students also have the opportunity to talk to representatives from companies in order to gain an insight into various professions and ask specific questions. These workshops and the associated Job & Study Talks are run by the organization "mehr als Lernen e.V." as part of the "Berliner Programm für vertiefte Berufsorientierung" BVBO at our secondary school.

Career Guidance

Vocational training fair and other offers

The VOCATIUM careers fair, which our students attend, offers a low-threshold introduction. This gives them their first insight into the various options and opportunities and introduces them to the idea of careers fairs. Another special feature is the "digital bulletin board", which, in addition to the analogue bulletin board, provides important information on various offers relating to study days, careers information days, etc. A weekly newsletter informs students about potential opportunities. There are also regular targeted offers that can be forwarded in this way.

Practical Orientation

Phorming the Future – MI(N)T allen Sinnen

Each year, we host a campus-wide project week that connects all areas—from kindergarten to secondary school. The focus is on environmental awareness, sustainability, and both physical and mental well-being. In secondary school, students tackle real-life challenges through interdisciplinary projects. With input from teachers, guest speakers, and hands-on excursions, they are encouraged to think critically and develop their own solutions.

Practical Orientation

EXTRAVAGANZA

Once a year, our secondary school hosts EXTRAVAGANZA – a vibrant afternoon dedicated to the arts. This special event gives students the chance to showcase their creativity and talents in a festive atmosphere. The entire school community comes together to enjoy a diverse programme of performances – from self-directed theatre pieces and musical acts to inspiring artistic displays. EXTRAVAGANZA is not only a highlight of the school year, but also a wonderful way to celebrate the role of art and culture in education and strengthen our sense of community.

Practical Orientation

Off into the world - trade fair

The ‘Auf in die Welt’ fair takes place annually at the Phorms Campus Berlin Süd. Here, young people and parents can find out about the many opportunities for a stay abroad during or after school. The fair features a large number of organisations that shed light on topics such as student exchanges, au pair stays, language trips and volunteer work.

Practical Orientation

Prevention workshops

At our secondary school, we regularly offer prevention workshops for students, parents and the entire school team. These cover topics such as stress management, communication, media skills and the prevention of violence and addiction. Programmes to promote social and emotional skills are offered to students, while parents and teachers are specifically strengthened in their role as supporters. In this way, we create a healthy and resilient school atmosphere for all members of the school community.

On the Phorms Campus, we experience international cooperation in a warm-hearted, family-like school community.

Impressions of secondary school life

School trips and exchange programs

At our secondary school, we offer a varied program of school trips and exchange opportunities to broaden the horizons of our students and give them valuable international experience. Class trips take place every year, which not only strengthen team spirit, but also offer interesting learning opportunities. A particular highlight of the school year is our annual ski trip, where sporting skills are improved and fun is had together in the snow.

In addition, a group of students takes part in an annual Model United Nations (MUN) trip, where they take on the role of diplomats and discuss international political issues. This offer is complemented by exchange programs with English- and Spanish-speaking regions, which give students the opportunity to deepen their language skills and experience another culture at first hand.

Our school clothing

We believe that a person’s worth is defined by who they are, not what they wear.

Our school clothing fosters a strong sense of community and contributes to a harmonious atmosphere. A school top is worn throughout the day, helping to downplay social differences and fashion trends.

With our modern Campus Collection, which can be freely mixed and matched, there's plenty of room for individuality and personal style.

Active in many ways

A healthy body supports a healthy mind.

Our outdoor areas offer plenty of space for movement and fun. Two versatile sports fields are available not only for PE lessons, but also for breaks and free-time activities. They include a running track as well as areas for long jump and throwing exercises. With a variety of additional sports and exercise opportunities, we create an environment that encourages physical fitness, builds team spirit, and strengthens endurance – all while having fun.

School bistro "BiDeSü"

Our modern student bistro "BiDeSü" offers more than just a tasty snack—it’s also a welcoming space for students to relax, take a break, and enjoy time together.

School culture
Built on Appreciation, Openness and Togetherness

We rely on a qualified, motivated and experienced team of teaching staff. Our international team is made up of native German, English, French and Spanish speakers. Thanks to our multicultural approach, students not only get to know their native language, but also their cultural backgrounds.

Our campus psychologist provides advice and support to students, parents and the educational team - from kindergarten to primary school to secondary school. She supports and advises on individual challenges and helps to develop positive solutions together. Another focus of her work is the promotion of resilience in order to strengthen the mental health and well-being of the school community. Through targeted impulses and preventative offers, she contributes to the healthy, holistic development of the pupils and supports them on their way to dealing with life's challenges with confidence and strength.
