Year 7: Firstly, we waited in the BideSü until around 8:40 when the Animal Care Specialist/Veterinarian came and told us about the situation of the animals and how they treat and care for them until they grow back to health. Then she, Fr. Kassel, and Fr. Lück told us the plan for the day; we go to Rathaus Steglitz but not allowed going past Walther-Schreiber-Platz, give out flyers for shops to put up and allow customers to sign in to the website to pay for food and extra amenities for the animals over Christmas, take pictures of the places you gave the flyers out to, and finally head to the meeting place at the Hugendubel (a bookstore) then go home and if you finish earlier then you can buy food all in 2 hours; going home at 13:00. So, after the game plan we all went to the Bus Station, Billy-Wilder-Promenade, and as we got on the bus it was full and it took us about 20 minutes to get to Rathaus.
So, the Animal Care Specialist and the Teachers handed out the Pamphlets, and we all picked out our groups, so they just told us the instructions one last time and we were off. Most students went to the nearby shops, but some went to the mall as the proximity of shops would make it easier for them to look for potential participants; most students were in groups of 4, so they had about 5-4 stacks each.
Because most students wanted to eat or enjoy the nearby Weihnachtsmarkt so they formed tactics like avoiding most clothing stores (for obvious reasons) and going for smaller shops or companies as they are more likely to want the extra attention from the flyers, even my group did this and we finished in about 30 minutes. Anyways everyone finished in like an hour, so we had a lot of time, so everyone ate around the allowed area and sometimes groups would bump into another group.
Finally, it was time to go to the Hugendubel and submit the pictures to the teachers; they reviewed them all, then they did a headcount, asked us what we learned and allowed all of us to go home. To Summarize, the moral of our social day is to help and advocate for people with no voice, most forms of help are good, and you can spread awareness for their/it’s cause. (text by NM).
Y8: On Monday, the 1.12.2025, we had the wonderful experience of a workshop, given us by the Steglitz Freilandlabor. We have done some interesting exercises to connect ourselves with the nature and to listen into our selves about what we need to be satisfied. After that, we were able to let our creativity lead our hand, in the way we recycled used materials to build things that are important for us in the future to have. In the end, some nice creations where built, for example a park and a office where everyone is treated the same. Next, we finished our day in the Lilienthal-Park and went back to the bus station. Overall, it was a interesting experience to all of us and we really enjoyed the day. (Text by FO).
Y9: On December 1st of this year, our school, Phorms Berlin Süd, held its annual Social Day, during which each of our classes participates in an activity that supports our community and makes a positive impact.
My class 9b had the chance to visit the Landesjugendwerk im AWO Landesverband Berlin e.V., where we discussed important topics such as fascism and the importance of supporting immigrants and refugees in our community. During our 2-hour-long workshop we talked about these issues in depth and gained new insights from the organisers of the Youth Centre. The presentation that was shown to us at the centre was highly informative and eye-opening and encouraged us to reflect on our role in creating an inclusive community. Lastly, we ended the day by packing goody bags for children and writing letters of encouragement and warm greetings.
Overall, our Social Day was a meaningful experience, where we learned, reflected, and contributed to our community. We will be definitely looking forward to next year‘s Social Day to continue making a positive difference.
Y10: Wir waren in die Sozialstiftung in Köpenick wo Menschen mit Einschränkungen wohnen oder als Tagespflege hingehen. Wir wollten dort zusammen mit den Betreuern und Personen Blumenzwiebeln in die Erde pflanzen, sodass sie im Frühling einen buten Garten haben. Wir sind dort um 9:30 angekommen und wir waren zuerst alle etwas überfordert da wir dachten dort wohnen nur ältere Menschen jedoch hat sich herausgestellt, dass dort Menschen mit Behinderungen und Einschränkungen wohnten. Die Stiftung hat sich vorgestellt und danach wir sowie die Naturschutzstiftung Berlin die das mit uns zusammen unternommen hat. Wir sind dann gemeinsam nach draußen gegangen und haben 4 verschieden Sorten an Blumen gepflanzt. Zwischendurch konnten wir uns zur Pause in der Cafeteria reichlich an Berlinern und Heißgetränken bedienen sowie als Abschluss auch mit einer Kürbissuppe zufriedengeben. Ins Gesamt war der Tag für uns alle ein sehr schöner da wir uns gefreut haben mit den etwas gemacht zu haben und Ihnen im Frühjahr einen bunten Garten zu zaubern.
Y11: Im Rahmen des diesjährigen Social Day besuchte die Jahrgangsstufe 11 das Logistikzentrum der Berliner Tafel, um einen direkten Einblick in Lebensmittelverteilung, Gemeinschaftsunterstützung und soziale Verantwortung zu erhalten. Der Vormittag begann mit einer Führung durch Sabine Werth, die Gründerin und Vorsitzende der Berliner Tafel. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler konnten sehen, wie Spenden gesammelt, sortiert und in ganz Berlin weiterverteilt werden, und gewannen so ein besseres Verständnis für die Größe der Organisation und den Einsatz der vielen Ehrenamtlichen.
Nach der Führung verbrachte die Gruppe die Mittagspause gemeinsam in Moabit, bevor sie sich zu einer Reflexionsrunde zurückzog. Dabei diskutierten die Schülerinnen und Schüler ihre Eindrücke, sprachen über das Gelernte und setzten sich mit den sozialen Herausforderungen rund um Ernährungssicherheit und gesellschaftliches Engagement auseinander. Diese Reflexion unterstützt zudem die Vorbereitung auf die Assembly-Präsentation im Februar.
Insgesamt bot der Tag wertvolle Lernerfahrungen und zeigte eindrucksvoll, wie wichtig lokale soziale Initiativen sind.
