For each unit, the children complete reading, writing, speaking and listening tasks based around a story, that we read together in class. The first story that we read together in Year 4 was called “Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx”. As the unit progressed the children completed pieces of learning that helped them delve deeper in to the story and also allowed them to practice skills that they are learning as part of our curriculum.
The working wall allows the children to see that learning unfold and includes speaking and listening activities around their background knowledge of Ancient Egypt (the story´s setting), making reading connections with other stories they have read, making predictions and sequencing and retelling the story both verbally and in writing.
