District Athletics May 2019

Date:
On the 15th of May, twelve fresh faced year 7 students made their way to SPORTPARK to take part in the Berlin Regional athletics championships for Steglitz-Zhelendorf.
Seven boys and seven girls made up the strong willed young team competing in a range of different events. Straight from the starting gun our students were out doing their best competing against students who were two years older than them!
Our team got off to a flying start with sprint runs from Lilly, Charlotte, Mads and Charlie in competitive sprint races over 75m. At the same time Ella was taking part in the High jump with Shirin throwing the Shot Put. Elio and Mads started the second session of events with the boy’s ball throw with Elio being very competitive throwing over 30m and Mads not far behind.
The girl’s long jump had Charlotte and Ella take part - both competing well, while Jonathon and Liam were competitive in the boys shot putt and Maxim and Charlie were tested in the boys High Jump. Back on the track Maxim, Elio, Shirin and Jona ran over 800m. Shirin took the performance of the day for the team as she won her heat finishing fast over the last 100m with jubilant cheers from her team mates and Mr. Lipton!
The team finished the day with mixed emotions. While competing against students two years older than them, they all held their own and completed their events to the best of their ability. The team may have finished last but our cheers and team spirit was by far the best on show!
