Distance Learning

Education? At Phorms it's a guarantee.

At Phorms, the media profile of our students is sharpened as a matter of course by exposing them to various digital devices, new media and digital educational methods at an early age. Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards in most cases, where the children already have their first digital contact in reception (preschool). Laptops and tablets are used regularly in the classroom. Students learn to use their digital tools to write texts, research, do math, and create presentations.

Distance Learning in Secondary School

During the school closure phases, all secondary school students in Years 7-12 at Phorms Campus Berlin Süd are taught through the virtual classroom with MS Teams and MS OneNote.
Here, the relevant timetable of the individual grades continues to be adhered to and thus also serves to orient, organise and ritualise the daily school routine in Distance Learning.
In addition, for the majority of subjects, fixed live hours are anchored in the timetable of the year groups. These live lessons are less about self-directed learning and more about guided learning. Complex subjects are explained by the teacher before moving on to the next phase of independent learning. These live lessons can also serve as a platform for presentations, as a consultation hour and also fulfill the role of close contact in the phase of distance learning between teacher and students.

Survey Results in Secondary School

More than 91 parents of our Secondary School took part in our survey on distance learning in January 2021. The following is an excerpt of the results. The percentage refers to the participating parents strongly or rather agreeing to the given statements.

Distance Learning in Primary School

All students learning in our Primary School are taught in a similar way to the Distance Learning programme in the Secondary School at times when the school is closed. In addition to using MS Teams in Years 4-6, students in Years 1-3 learn using the Seesaw digital platform. Integrated into the schedule are also weekly assemblies with the Primary Heads to provide a platform for the children to come together as a school community to interact. The art of green screen is multifaceted, as the following video excerpts demonstrate.

Distance Learning in Kita

In Kita, there is also virtual support during the lockdown through interactive video conferences with a focus on language development, sports, music, art, and experimentation. In addition, birthday packages are made up for the children and sent home. Postcards with photos and stories from everyday life "before the lockdown" also make their way to the children. As a sign of unity, all the children make pennant strings to decorate the windows of the kindergarten.

Appreciation of our parents

Elke Brumm is a mother of two children at Phorms Secondary School

"What impressed us most was how well the Phorms team rose to the challenges of the Corona pandemic: with utmost flexibility and digital literacy, homeschooling took off on the very first day of the lockdown. Thanks to live lessons and constant communication with teachers, we never worried that anyone would be left behind."

Nina & Frank Landes have two children at Phorms

"Phorms has also excelled since Corona showed up: From the beginning, there have been regular video conferences during the school closure, all work material is made available online, and daily contact between children, parents and teachers is standard at Phorms. We would choose Phorms again and again!"

Mother of two children at Phorms Secondary School

"We have two boys in Secondary School and have always been very happy with Phorms. Especially the pandemic has shown once again how grateful we can be here: small classes, professional, well-organised homeschooling from the very beginning, and transparent communication. Not many schools can do that."
