Dear children and students, teachers and colleagues, parents and friends,

I would like to wish all the children, students, parents and staff of Phorms Berlin Sued a very happy 10th birthday.

It was with great excitement and a certain degree of apprehension, that I joined the Phorms team as Headteacher of a new school in Berlin, to be called Phorms Berlin Sued.

We opened in September with 69 children, from Reception to Year 5, in temporary buildings not far from where the present campus was being renovated. Looking back after our first school year 2008-9, we all felt our school community had built a real family feeling, which we valued and wanted to maintain. Over the following years, as our school developed, that culture of openness and positivity stayed with us. I was so pleased to see how the many different visitors we welcomed could quickly feel this atmosphere running through the school, and how proud we were of the achievements of our students in their bilingual learning environment and that wonderful self-confidence that came from being able to express themselves in the two languages.

Facing the many challenges and working hard together were of course part of the process, and I would like to thank  the whole school team, support staff and management working across the school day and school year.

When I reflect on my seven years as Headteacher, I never cease to be amazed by our pupils and their teaching teams and felt honoured to have been given the opportunity to be part of the Phorms story. I regularly  visited classrooms, and often taught classes throughout the school. Quite simply – I lived it, and loved it!

Special times for me would have to include the fun we had in Assemblies, School Concerts (when I inevitably cried at some point), our Arts Weeks and coming back to start each new school year with the team.

Thank you to all those who have been, and still are, part of Phorms Berlin Sued. Congratulations on being 10 years old!!

Warm regards,
Jayne Morgan
