We did our first practical in Year 8 physics

Today in Grade 8 physics we made calorimeters.  The purpose of the lab was to test how much energy was in junk food (maispuffs, popcorn) versus the amount of energy in healthy food (nuts, muesli.)   We burn the food to see how much it heats up a known quantity of water.  Since we know the specific heat of water, we can figure out how much energy was transferred using the heat transfer equation Q = mcΔT. -DB
