The students representing Phorms Berlin Süd were able to capture first place on the 7th of January this month after wins over Wilmersdorf 2, Nelson Mandela Schule, Heinrich-v.-Stephan GS and the hosting team Otto-Hahn Schule. The boys opened up against Wilmersdorf and got off to a good start considering this was their first time playing as a team, by passing the ball well and communicating in their new positions. Students from year eight were able to showcase their contributions to the team as LW moved the ball up the court and finding open teammates and JS locked it down on the defensive end. The game against Nelson Mandela Schule was another step forward for the team as they began building chemistry. In this match, JS (10b) proved to be a versatile weapon for the team as he was comfortable switching positions and guarding anyone on the other team. During the Heinrich-v.-Stephan GS match, the standouts were JG (10b) and JG (10a) as they were putting up points as well as playing good defence, feeding off each others energy these two helped controlled the tempo of the game for the team. The last game against Otto-Hahn Schule was the closest of the matches as Otto-Hahn Schule was leading at the end of the half. However, clutch 3-pointers by IA (11) and MK (10a) in the final minutes of play helped to carry the team to victory. On the defensive end SR (11) was all over Otto-Hahn Schule's offence, making sure that a comeback was not possible.
The Phorms Berlin Süd Boys Basketball team is set to move up in the tournament rankings and play tougher competition on a date that is still being determined.
