Dr Seuss Day in Year 1!

Bildergalerie

Children in Year 1 are starting to read in English; an important part of this is learning their Letters and Sounds and having fun with words and rhymes. From the The Cat in the Hat to Yertle the Turtle,  Dr Seuss books teach children to have fun with language and play around with words. Over the last 4 weeks we have been reading stories, making up our own silly rhymes and creating some super surreal artwork to go with it.

1B decided this was not enough and they wanted to spend a whole day doing Dr Seuss activities so we decided to hold a Dr Seuss Day. We collected lots of junk from home and recycled it into our very own version of ‘Whoville’ and made Green Eggs and Ham for a snack. Throughout the day we worked with partners on building, painting and cooking. We created 10 amazing and surreal buildings which used our mathematical knowledge of shape and space, our recent topic work on buildings helped our design process  and the colourful illustrations from ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go’ inspired our crazy colour schemes. And the Green Eggs and Ham? We like them… we do!
